Rainbows

Rainbows (or Rainbow Guides to give them their full title) is the youngest of the Guide Association groups and caters for girls aged 5-7 years. St Michael's Rainbows meet on Fridays during term time.

What do Rainbow Guides do?
Rainbow Guides have fun! They take part in all sorts of activities in and out of doors - exploring, sharing and discovering. They have their own adventures and also learn to be kind and helpful to others.

Rainbows play games, paint, draw and make things. They enjoy listening to stories and singing songs. At each meeting there is time for them to share their news with others.

Many of the activities aim to develop each girl at a pace which suits her and are based on the Eight Point Programme followed by all Guides in The Guide Association. This is adapted to suit each girl's age and ability. The Eight Point Programme for Rainbow Guides is:

The Rainbow Promise
I will do my best to love my God and to be kind and helpful.

Brownies

Brownie Guides are usually aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the Pack until they are a little bit older.

Any girl over the age of seven can become a Brownie Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Brownie Guide Promise.

11th Basingstoke (St. Michael's) Brownies
St. Michael's Brownies meet on Fridays during term time. Brownies belong to a Pack and work in small groups called Sixes. Sixes can have names such as Elves, Pixies and Gnomes. This gives each girl a group of ready-made friends to take care of her. It also makes her feel that she belongs to something special.

The Brownie Guide Promise

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

The Brownie Guide Law

A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself
and does a Good Turn every day.

The Brownie Guide Motto

Lend A Hand.

Uniform

Each Brownie Guide chooses the uniform she wants to wear from the range of options available in the Brownie Guide uniform collection: it is up to each girl to decide which items she likes. This choice allows Brownie Guides to be themselves but also makes them feel part of the Pack.

Guides

Guides are usually aged between ten and 14, although some Guides like to stay until they are older.

Any girl over the age of ten can become a Guide as long as she is able to understand, and wants to make, the Guide Promise.

11th Basingstoke (St. Michael's) Guides
St. Michael's Guides meet every Friday. Being a Guide is all about belonging to a group, learning new skills, making new friends and helping others. Each Guide is encouraged to achieve her own personal goals through a progressive programme with the opportunity to work for a wide variety of badges. This allows the girl to mature and develop at her own pace.

Guides work together in Patrols, groups of four to eight girls, providing a ready-made group of friends and helping the girls to feel that they belong to something special. They elect their own leader.

A Patrol plans its own activities with the support of the Guide Guider so that each Guide learns to share in decisions that affect herself and others in the Patrol.

The Guide Promise

I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people and
To keep the Guide Law.

St. Michael's Scouts meet on Mondays during term time. This Group is part of the District of Basingstoke East, in which there are 13 scout groups, some based in the town centre and some in the surrounding villages and estates. There are close links with the District of Basingstoke West since the two Districts split from the original single District of Basingstoke in 1979.
