Popular Curate Moves to London
3rd September 2015
St. Michael’s Church and the Basingstoke Team Parish recently said goodbye to the Revd Karen Wellman. Karen has been curate at St Michael’s Basingstoke since 2012 and is now relocating to take a new appointment as Priest-in-Charge of St Mark’s Teddington, South West London.
Last Sunday Karen celebrated worship at St Michaels for the last time, followed by an Italian inspired farewell lunch with nearly 80 members of the congregation. The Revd Canon Jo Stoker, Team Rector, preached at Karen’s last service paying tribute to Karen’s work in the parish, including the building of strong relationships with many local schools, particularly Oakridge, Kings Furlong and The Vyne.
On Sunday 23rd August, Karen delivered her last sermon at St Michael’s, preaching on the need to make oneself vulnerable to God. Karen reflected on highlights of her ministry at St Michael’s and the wide range of experiences she had during her time here, drawing particular attention to the enjoyment she experienced whilst helping children and families develop in their faith at the Time Together services. Karen also reminisced about the time she also served as the Mayor’s Chaplain here in Basingstoke.
Having been blessed with Karen’s efforts, gifts and wit for the past few years; the Church of St Michael’s now wish Karen well as she continues her journey of ministry in Teddington.
