St Peter's Day Nursery

St Peter’s Day Nursery, South Ham 2018

Press release June 2018

The Parochial Church Council (PCC) of the Church of England Basingstoke Team Parish has much pleasure in announcing the placing of a contract with Integra Buildings Limited (IBL) of Hull to build a 40-place day nursery on PCC land adjacent to St Peter’s church, Pinkerton Road, South Ham, Basingstoke. The PCC is creating this nursery in a part of Basingstoke where Hampshire County Council (HCC) has identified more full day care and places for two-year olds is needed.  The full day care will also help support families returning to work.

Work on site began in late June, as may be seen in the attached photograph. The modular building which is already being constructed in Hull will be delivered by road to the site where it is to be assembled in mid-July, once groundworks have been completed. Working with HCC, the PCC is engaging Timbers and Lychpit Limited which already provides day care at the Timbers Nursery School in Oakridge.

To undertake this project, the PCC has received part payment in the form of a Capital Grant from HCC as part of Department for Education two-year-old development for the provision of full day care Early Years Education for 25 years. Financial support has also been given by the Diocese of Winchester’s Investing for Mission Fund and the local Parrett and Boustead Trusts as well as from the PCC’s own resources.

Revd. Canon Jo Stoker, Rector of Basingstoke said: “The new St Peter’s Day Nursery is a big project for St Peter’s and we’re really excited about it.  We believe it will make a real contribution to supporting young families on South Ham. It will also help us to enhance further the mission and outreach of St Peter’s church and its congregation.”
