What did you do this weekend?
Normally my answer would be either working or house work or Guiding. This weekend (22/23 January) was Guiding. However, not our usual sort of trips (What’s usual anyway?!?) but something needing a lot more energy. On Friday evening myself and 3 other Guiders, including Falcon from our Guide Unit, met in the dark outside the newly built holiday home at Foxlease. This has been affectionately named Princess Margaret Lodge after our late President. It only took 4 Guiders 5 minutes to work out how to get into the building! Once in, we set about unpacking cars, setting up the first aid room and sorting out food. We were then able to sit down for some supper on the very comfy sofas provided in the main hall.
After a fight for the showers and dinner the girls settled down to watch a video. Some of them even fell asleep while watching! Then off to bed and I believe all of them were asleep before midnight!!
Sunday saw some very tired Guides struggle through breakfast, but once back at the bonfire energy and spirits soared. After pulling out more branches we moved onto a hedge in another part of the grounds leaving a few behind to finish sawing. The Guides started by standing in a very muddy ditch while I had a fight with a hawthorn hedge! They pulled off a lot of low lying Ivy saving the hedge planters next weekend some time. After lunch we returned to tidy up around the bonfire and ended by melting marshmallows. Then back to the lodge to wash and change ready for parents. Each Guide was awarded their Team player badge as the teamwork was outstanding! The girls worked very hard and surprised us all. There was not one moan or complaint only laughing and working. I have been asked by them to book to go again next year - any volunteers?!
